Deeper than this

Deeper than this is a photographic and film instillation that invites you into the reflections within Gumbaynggirr and Ngambaa waterways. Like a hallowed reading of ruminations that steady the mind during reflective intervals of ambiguity, the stillness in the river’s reflection incite introspection.

The works in the exhibition Deeper than this portray ancient ancestral waterways and take in the wonderings of clandestine reflection, upon which, the unknowable can be gently pondered. The photographs entice the mind’s imaginings to interpret the works by conferring with psyche’s suggestions, like the renowned ink blots of psychoanalysis. The short films contemplate the perplexity of the senses when exposed to ethereal expanses where time dissolves. The exhibition provides a space to be immersed in the deep echo of the land. The original concept was envisaged during the quieter days of Covid, and like waterways, continues to evolve.
